Last month I did a three month recap of June, July, and August. I felt that July-September might be a better comparison. I was curious if I would unintentionally limit the number of items I wore. Over the last three months, I wore 49 items (down from 53); I wore 33 items over the course of September.
Workhorses
My workhorses are mostly shoes. The things I wore the most are:
- Camel Sandals – worn 23 times
- Black Toms Sandals – worn 18 times
- Leopard Flats – worn 11 times
- Ikat Chevron Flats – worn 10 times
- Red Flats – worn 10 times
- Army Green Shorts – worn 10 times
- Black Short Sleeved Cardigan – worn 9 times
- Cobalt Blue Top – worn 9 times
- Dark Jeans – worn 8 times
- Black Shorts – worn 7 times
- Navy Eyelet Dress – worn 6 times
- Navy Top – worn 6 times
- Black Lace Top – worn 5 times
New Additions
I mentioned I ordered a few things in August that I wasn’t sure I would keep. I added a grey terry dress, a white summer cardigan, and a navy linen top. My shopping was a bit out of control in September. I bought a pair of black tweed pants, a black skirt, black leopard print tights, a gray leopard print top, a polka dot cardigan, and a teal cardigan. I do think all of these pieces have the potential to become workhorses. In addition to those items, I’ve ordered a few things that have not arrived yet. Since I’m not sure that I’ll keep them, I’ll list what stays next month.
Future Shopping
I’m very disappointed with my willpower. I think the main problem is that I really could use a couple of skirts, so instead of going cold turkey and avoiding the stores, I’ve continued to “shop” to find those. Instead of the two skirts, I end up adding a bunch of other things. I don’t realize how many “other things” until I write these posts. I am unsubscribing from the sale emails that I receive from Loft. They are killing me; they’ve been having some insane sales and with my Loft card, and Loft cash, I get an even better deal. So hard to resist! As I mentioned above, I really would like to add a couple of skirts to my wardrobe. I cleared out a bunch of Winter items awhile back so there is a possibility I will find some additional gaps when the weather gets cold. Beyond that, I don’t need to add anything to my closet. I’m considering doing a variation of Project 333, where I limit what I wear for a set period of time and then rotate things in and out each period. I think that might help keep the feel of getting new things without actually purchasing anything. My greatest hesitation is the weather. This is the time of year where we have a wide swing in temperatures; there are still several days of upper 80’s on the forecast. Maybe I will begin on the 15th. Hopefully by then we’ll be leaning more towards cooler temps and the 80’s and 90’s will be gone for awhile.
