OG&E
With several unexpected expenses this summer, including the purchase of the new air conditioner, electrical issues, plumbing issues, being required by my insurance company to paint my house within the next few months and much higher than normal electric bills this summer, I am looking for more ways to cut back. I feel like I’ve implemented a lot of ways to save on electricity but there must be more because my energy report from electric company, OG&E, says that I am spending more than many of my neighbors. I suspect that the best thing I could do is add some insulation. But this series will focus on other areas.
I’ve decided that I’m going to do another spending freeze but this one will focus on energy, primarily electric, savings. OG&E, recently installed smart meters throughout the city. This technology allows me to access current information from my meter online. I’m going to check my progress daily on their website to see what causes my usage to go up and work on making changes to lower my bills. My first thoughts are to start with the washing machine/dryer and the computer. I think there are a few things I can do to cut back when washing clothes. And I’m horrible about shutting off my computer or at least putting it to sleep. How do you save on electricity?
