A few months ago, I learned that the law firm where I had worked over ten years was closing. I panicked. I’m a single gal with a mortgage and bills. I immediately began working on my resume and contacted everyone I knew to get the word out that I was looking for a full time job. I had a few good leads, but nothing panned out. I had my mind set on replacing my full time job and doing it as fast as possible. When nothing happened, it forced me to slow down and really think about what I wanted.
Several years ago I read a book entitled, Making a Living Without a Job by Barbara Winter. The book suggests using “Multiple Profit Centers” to make a living. I thought it was genius, but I wasn’t about to quit a sure thing for something so risky. But is it risky? The idea is that instead of putting all your eggs in one basket, that full time job, you make a living with several different sources of income. If one of them dries up, you still have the others. This also appeals to my desire to do a little bit of everything. I enjoyed being a law firm administrator but I never wanted that to define me. Would it be possible to do something similar as one of my profit centers but also do the creative stuff I long to do? I have so many things that I would love to do. Can I make a living doing them? Would I be mad at myself if I never tried?
I’ve decided to take the leap of faith and find out. This blog will document my journey. I’ll find new ways of making income and new ways of stretching my budget.

Very impressive. And I wish you success.

Taking a chance like you are doing takes…well, balls. However, with the risk comes the possibility of loving what you do. I am really excited to see where you get and will be following closely.

I go back to this post and I am proud to be your friend. You should know that not a lot of people take a leap like you did and are doing. Most people don’t even try.
Action is the foundational key to all success.

Thank you! I needed that. I will come back to your comment when I feel discouraged. And when I feel like people think I’m crazy for doing what I’m doing.
