Layout Sketching
Part of the reason I haven’t been very good about lettering practice is that there are so many different things I want to letter. After church Sunday, I was inspired to sketch out something our Senior Pastor often asks.
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
This question led to the theme for this year, “Something for the First Time.” The above photo is the beginning stages of sketching a layout. There is still a lot of work to do on the actual lettering, but I think I have an idea of how I want it to look.
In the past week, in my quest to master lettering, I watched several lessons on Skillshare (if you are interested in learning lettering they have several classes on the subject). I also scoured the internet for vintage lettering inspiration, and began exploring this very extensive resource. My goal this week is to get in the habit of practicing at least 20 minutes a day. I think I can spare that much time on my busiest days and will most likely work at it longer on my less busy days. What do you hope to accomplish this week?
