Reading… Company of One. I actually have several books going right now. I requested this book from the library after hearing the author, Paul Jarvis, on the Hurry Slowly PodcastHurry Slowly Podcast. It’s nice to read a book by someone with a similar business philosophy as mine, where growing the business isn’t the primary concern. Instead it’s about creating a business that allows you to have the flexibility and lifestyle without the responsibility of employees.
Watching… Instant Hotel. I binge-watched the first half of this show over the weekend. I loved the premise, where vacation rental owners compete to be named the owner with the best rental. I was really excited to discover it was filmed in Australia. As someone that dreams of owning a vacation rental someday, I love checking out all the places and hearing what people think about them. Unfortunately, it’s a little too “reality-show” for me. It’s a competition and there are some really obnoxious people participating. I completed the first half where they name one of the finalists, but the group in the second half seem even more obnoxious than the first. I’m not sure I will finish it.
Listening to… The Dropout. I don’t really remember when this story broke. I first remember hearing about it when Liz talked about reading the book on Happier/Happier in Hollywood. I’m looking forward to checking out the new documentary. Elizabeth Holmes fancied herself the next Steve Jobs, unfortunately her business Theranos didn’t have the science to backup its big claims. It’s amazing how many people fell for her story that they were able to process a battery of blood tests with a drop of blood. I’ve never been able to figure out her game; it seems like she bought into her own lies. I never understand how people with these schemes don’t realize that they are going to be found out.
Using… Andalou Naturals Mandarin Vanilla Lotion. My hands have suddenly been insanely dry these last couple of weeks. I’ve been on the search for a good lotion. I used to use Acure lotion but have been having trouble finding any in the store. I purchased a couple of different brands and love the smell of this lotion. I’m not sure it works as well as the Acure lotion. I may have to try the hand cream.
Eating… Octopus Balls from Cafe Oasis (not to be confused with Schweddy Balls). I was sad to discover that one of my favorite restaurants of all time, Mr. Pho, has closed. We decided to try out Cafe Oasis, located above the old Mr. Pho location. I liked it, especially the octopus balls (fried octopus and mayo). Now to find a replacement Vietnamese restaurant.
