Reading… How to Break Up with Your Phone. I have been devouring this book. I think this one has convinced me I have a problem more than Digital Minimalism did. While reading it, it’s occurred to me how much picking up my phone every few minutes is effecting my concentration levels and creativity. I’m experimenting with ways to cut back my usage. I will share more when I’ve had some time to assess what works.
Listening to… Inheritance. This memoir by Dani Shapiro focusses on the time in her life when she discovered, through doing an AncestryDNA test as a fluke, that the man she believed to be her father was not her biological father. It’s one of those books that makes you think about a lot of different angles related to the easy availability of DNA tests and how the results impact the outcome of decisions made decades ago. This is my book club’s selection; it should make for great conversation.
Loving… Y Weave Baskets from Target. When I heard how crazy cold it was going to get over the weekend, I decided I would spend part of the weekend working on some organizing projects. I’ve been using these baskets for several years and am pleased they still carry them. My bathroom does not have any cabinets in it and I keep my makeup and toiletries in one of these baskets in the closet outside the bathroom. It gets pulled out of that closet and brought into the bathroom once a day and has held up really well. I bought some new ones in order to organize the entire closet.
Using… X-Treme Tape. I discovered when re-winterizing my sprinkler system that the above ground pipe that runs to the the system had a couple of small leaks. I am likely going to have to do some work on the system this spring/summer but in an attempt to make it through this very long winter, I used this tape to stop the leaks. It works surprisingly well. I will definitely keep this stuff in my toolbox for future use.
Playing… I Love Hue. I was not aware of this game until I went searching for an app to help me create color palettes for design. This game showed up in the results and of course I had to try it out. It’s a puzzle game consisting of tiles of gradating colors. At the start of the game, the tiles are mixed up and the goal is for you to put them back in order in as few moves as possible. I generally come in under average but every once in a while seem to have color discerning the colors; I think it’s a combination of tired eyes and my iPhone going into night mode. It’s oddly relaxing organizing the colors.
