Reading… Digital Minimalism. Paula Pant interviewed Cal Newport for the Afford Anything podcast. I was excited to see that his book was available on Scribd and have been devouring it. I have been contemplating my smart phone and digital consumption ever since. He recommends taking a digital media break for approximately one month; I’ve been contemplating what that means to me. What areas is digital media harming more than helping? I think I definitely need to take a break from Facebook and binge-watching shows on streaming services. I probably should limit my Instagram use as well – maybe that means unfollowing everybody I don’t know IRL. I don’t think it’s necessary to stop listening to podcasts, but I probably should minimize what I’m listening to. Newport makes the argument that we no longer experience solitude and that’s not good for us. I know that all my digital consumption hampers my creativity.
Watching… Bodyguard. I have a few days left on my Netflix subscription. I was seriously disappointed in the latest season of Grace & Frankie and have moved on to Bodyguard. I’ve watched three episodes; it reminds me of 24 and Homeland – definitely has the same intensity. I’m intrigued to learn what happens next.
Listening to… Zach Braff’s iPod Playlist. I am attempting to take full advantage of my Spotify subscription. Over the years, I’ve noticed that I can always count on enjoying the music on certain TV shows and movies. When Garden State came out, I realized that Zach Braff has excellent taste in music and was excited to find a playlist on Spotify. I’ve also managed to find playlists for every TV show I’ve searched – definitely one of the best features of Spotify.
Eating at… Sid’s Diner. On a recent research trip to El Reno, I had lunch at Sid’s. Maybe it was high expectations, but I wasn’t super impressed. It might just be that onion burgers aren’t really my thing. I think I like my burgers a little thicker and juicier. They did however have the best tater tots that I’ve had in quite awhile.
Doing… food prep. I’m working on getting back on the crap ton of vegetables kick. The only time I’m ever successful with eating this way is when I do food prep at the beginning of the week. Yesterday, I washed and chopped a lot of vegetables. I also cooked chicken for the week and made homemade nut butter.
