Reading… Endurance: My Year in Space, A Lifetime of Discovery. I’ve been reading (listening to) this for book club and am thoroughly enjoying it. I wanted to be an astronaut as a kid – until I realized how much science was involved and that I would probably have to join the military. I definitely suffer from claustrophobia too much to be able to survive a year in space but I’m sure glad that people like Scott Kelly are up to the task. It’s fortuitous that he has a twin brother willing to go through medical tests so that NASA can assess the toll the space puts on one’s body.
Watching… A Year in Space and Beyond A Year in Space. I’ve been enjoying the book so much that I wanted to see with my own eyes some of the things Scott saw in space. While the second documentary had a little less about Scott, I enjoyed it a bit more. I felt like it went into why we explore space a bit more and why Scott’s year in space was so important. I have not been following the space program like I used to and was interested to learn about where the program stands on returning to the moon and going to Mars. I’ve also been watching footage from Space on YouTube. There’s a great channel that has video combined with piano music – very relaxing.
Listening to… Dr. Death. I have been attempting to get everyone I know to listen to this podcast. It’s like a really good episode of Dateline that scares the hell out of you. It’s the story of a Dallas based neurosurgeon that botched numerous surgeries but kept choosing to operate, while the hospitals where he worked kept letting him do so. It’s one of those cases where fact is crazier than fiction – a binge-worthy listen.
Using… ebates. Have you done your Black Friday/Cyber-Monday shopping? There are a few things I’ve been waiting to buy until I found a good deal – blackout shades being one. I finally pulled the trigger on that purchase and will be getting $20 back through ebates for shopping through them. If you don’t already use ebates, sign up here and get $10. Every little bit adds up, I’ve earned $450 cash back in 2 1/2 years (it helps that I was able to purchase my washing machine through ebates).
Loving… Yogu Yoga Blocks. I’m 25 days into my 30 days of Yoga. I realized pretty quickly that I needed a set of yoga blocks. I consulted my yoga expert niece and read tons of reviews. There are many sets that cost $30 or more and I wasn’t sure if that was necessary. I finally settled on this set. I’m very pleased with them. They are soft enough, but not too soft. I guess I haven’t had them long enough to know how well they will hold up, but so far so good.
