Hello there! I did not intend to take such a long break from the blog. I’ve been directing my creative energy toward pattern design (and yard work). The design is slow going. I’m having trouble narrowing my focus – there are so many ideas. After several years of the yard being a mess, I’m beginning to see progress.
Watching… Love Lies and Records. I’ve been in major British television withdrawal since Call the Midwife ended a few weeks ago. I finally broke down and got an Acorn subscription. There’s only one six episode season of this, but I believe it’s been renewed for a second season. I found the Registrar office setting intriguing – a change of pace from legal/medical dramas.
Reading… The Elephant Whisperer. Elephants have long been my favorite animal, but after a discussion with my niece, I realized that I didn’t really know that much about them. Following Gretchen Rubin’s advice, I’ve decided to become a minor expert on elephants. I loved this memoir set at a wildlife refuge in South Africa. Thula Thula was quickly added to my bucket list.
Listening to… The Habitat. This podcast is Survivor meets The Martian – kind of what you’d expect if you trapped six strangers in a small space for a year. As a former astronaut wanna-be, I’ve long been fascinated with the idea of space travel. But this quickly convinced me that going to Mars is definitely NOT on my bucket list. If you are looking to dive in to the world of podcasts, this would be a great one to start.
Eating… Coconut Bliss Ice Cream. I’ve never been a huge ice cream eater but have found myself craving it this summer. The Mint Galactica is delish! I wish I knew of someplace that served it by the bowl. I prefer limiting my sweets to a special dining out treat (my self control isn’t so great if I keep it in the house).
Using… Invisalign. Even though I had braces (twice) and jaw surgery, my teeth are still a bit of a mess. The oral surgeon that pulled my tooth recommended I have a second jaw surgery. Thankfully, I found an orthodontist that said he could fix my bite with Invisalign. I started a couple of weeks ago and am on my second set of trays. I miss being able to lazily drink a cup of coffee but think it will be worth it in the end (hopefully less than 18 months from now).
