Reading… The Alice Network. This is the story of two women, Eve who worked as a spy during WWI & WWII. After WWII, Charlie (short for Charlotte), goes to Eve to get her help finding her cousin Rose who seems to have disappeared during the war. The book alternates between looking back at Eve’s life working in the Alice Network, and present day as they look for Rose. I enjoyed this one quite a bit.
Watching… The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. When I heard about this Amy Sherman-Palladino show I had high hopes. It did not disappoint! It’s set in 1958; the costumes, sets, and cast are fabulous. Mrs. Maisel is a young bride that supports her husband as he spends his nights doing stand-up at a club in downtown New York. When he comes home one day and tells her he’s leaving her, she gets drunk and ends up at the club and does her own show that puts his act to shame. I’m sad that there are only 8 episodes. I’m sure I will fly through them in no time.
Listening to… Why We Eat What We Eat. This is an interesting podcast that looks at the origins of various foods. The one on Kale was fascinating – mostly due to the twist about the American Kale Association.
Using… Liquid Chalk Markers. I did my Christmas decorating over the weekend. This included some holiday lettering on a couple of mirrors in the house. These markers were perfect for the task. They do work better when writing on something that’s laying flat, as opposed to something hanging on a wall. One of the mirrors is nearly impossible to take down, but I managed to get it lettered anyway.
Loving… Woodland Scarf. I have a black floral scarf that I bought at Target years ago. I wear it all the time and still get lots of compliments on it. I’ve been on the lookout for something that was similar so I could change things up. I picked this one up during Loft’s 50% off sale on Black Friday. I think it will be in heavy rotation.
