Hello there! Long time, no see. Sorry about that. I didn’t intend to take a month off; I blinked and now it’s May. As I mentioned the last time I disappeared, I’ve been doing more creative work and haven’t had the capacity to blog and do that at the same time. I’m going to try a little harder to do both.
Watching… La La Land. I’ve been wanting to see this movie since it came out and I finally got around to it. It was a little slow in the beginning but I ended up loving it. I’ve never been interested in being a movie star, but for some reason I find myself fascinated with L.A. and the business of all of it. In addition to the setting, I also loved the costumes, cinematography, and music. I recommend it.
Listening to… Offshore Podcast. Since getting used to listening to podcasts at 1.6x speed (I’m gradually trying to work up to 2.0x), I’ve been devouring various podcasts. Off Shore was the latest addition. I just finished the first season which was the story of a police shooting in Waikiki and the black, white, and gray issues surrounding the case (primarily race relations). I found the series very well balanced; it provided lots of food for thought.
Reading… Pogue’s Basics: Money. I’ve been attempting to lower my regular spending as much as humanly possible. I believe that it’s crazy to spend more than necessary on boring regular expenses. If you can save $20/month, that may not seem like a lot but I’d rather invest or spend it on something I really want, not give it to the electric company. I’ve gathered a few ideas from reading this book.
Loving… Eyelet Shirtdress from J. Crew. My capsule wardrobe is pretty much complete, but there are a few basics that I’ve been on the lookout for – solid colored pieces that aren’t always easy to find. One of them was a green dress. When I saw this dress on Pinterest I fell in love. I ordered it on sale and am awaiting its arrival. I hope it works out; I think this could be a long lasting piece for my spring/summer capsule.
Wanting… a worm composter. I watched an interesting program over the weekend about a sustainable house. One of its features was a worm composter. Yes, I’m talking about composting with worms; I really have turned into a hippie! You put your compostable scraps in it along with some earthworms and they turn it into worm tea, a great fertilizer for your plants. After seeing the program, I went to Amazon to check out worm composters. I especially love the look of this one.
