How was your weekend? Except for an embarrassing loss by my Cowboys, mine was pretty good.
Watching…The First Grader. This movie was mentioned in last week’s sermon; I knew it was one I had to see. It portrays the story of Kimani Maruge an 84 year old Mau Mau veteran that helped liberate Kenya from the British. When the country declares free education for everyone, he shows up at the local primary school ready to learn to read. He is turned away several times but is persistent and eventually allowed in as a student. He holds the Guinness record as the oldest person to begin primary school and was recently honored with a Google Doodle. He is a great reminder that you are never too old to learn.
Loving…ZenFresh Chlorine Filtration Low Flow Shower Head. The finish was flaking off my old shower head so I decided to research low-flow options as a replacement. In the past I’ve avoided them like the plague, but when I read about this one and saw several people with similar feelings giving it good marks, I decided to give it a try. I LOVE this thing. The holes are tiny which forces the water to come out with great pressure. It may just be in my head, but I do think the filtration makes a difference. Only time will tell if it has any affect on water usage; I will give an update later.
Reading…The Accidental Creative. Actually I’m reading/listening to this one. I have the audiobook as well as the Kindle book. I’m hoping to glean some great tips on running a creative business.
Thankful for… this weather. Four years ago, the law firm where I’d worked over ten years closed its doors. The rest of the staff was offered positions with one or both of the two resulting firms. It was a pretty awful time and I didn’t handle it with as much grace as I would have liked. I don’t think about it often. but those feelings were dredged up Friday after running into a couple of old coworkers. If the weather hadn’t been so nice this weekend, I’m afraid I would have let myself wallow. Instead, I reminded myself that I’m much happier now and went outside to play in the sun.
Trying… Philips SlimStyle LED Light Bulb. When I ordered the shower head, I also decided to try out an LED bulb. I wasn’t convinced this flat bulb would provide an even light, but it does very well. It might not be as bright as the bulb I had been using in this particular lamp, but it provides a nice warm light – not at all blue like I feared it might be. If it lasts as long as it’s supposed to, nearly 23 years, I’ll be thrilled.
What have you been up to lately?
