This is one I’ve been wanting to try for awhile. There’s a lot of speculation about many commercially produced deodorants being bad for us. I’m not sure if that’s true or not, but I do wonder about eating or letting my body absorb things with ingredients I don’t recognize. My philosophy is to try out alternatives and if I can replace those products, do it.
There are recipes all over the internet for homemade deodorant. This is the one I used:
- 1/4 cup Arrowroot Powder
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1/3 cup Coconut Oil
- 10 drops essential oil (I used Grapefruit Oil)
After melting the coconut oil (it’s solid below 76°), I mixed up all the ingredients. I re-used a deodorant stick. After pouring the mixture into the stick, I refrigerated it until it was solid. Come summer, I may have to put it in a jar. I’ve been using it for a few days now. The consistency is a little different – it’s a bit gritty (probably the baking soda). So far it’s worked really well. I think this one’s a keeper.
