I began reading Sarah’s Key this week. So far it’s really good. Disturbing, but good. The book does a really good job of relating the role that complacency played in the Holocaust. The book is set during two different times, during the “Vél d’Hiv” roundup in Paris in 1942 and during the 60th anniversary of the roundup. As I read, I keep finding myself thinking about this quote by Martin Niemöller.
I also began reading The Brothers Karamazov this week via DailyLit. DailyLit is a website that breaks books into parts and sends a piece to you each day via email. It’s a great way to read classics. I started reading the same book via DailyLit a few years ago and got behind and quit. I hope to do better this time.
Speaking of reading, did you know that Amazon is currently offering $10 off Kindle Textbooks through January 9th, when you enter the code ETXTBOOK at this page. There are a lot of books included under the Textbook category. Some of them are even under $10, so if you’re interested in a free Kindle book, you’ll want to check this out. I bought a highly rated Graphic Design book for around $8.
I have taken several pictures with my new camera. I’m still studying, so I haven’t used any of the manual settings yet. But I’m already impressed. I love this picture of my dog, Paseo. I was able to shoot it without the flash so his eyes are brown instead of blue! Do you know Why dogs get blue, not red, eyes in flash photos?
The weather here has been absolutely perfect, especially for January. I hope to get out this weekend and get some painting and yard work accomplished. What are your plans for the weekend?
