October’s challenge went very well. With the exception of a couple of days, I spent at least twenty minutes working on my hand lettering. Most of this time was spent on Copperplate Calligraphy. I did not concentrate on creating my own style, but instead worked on the basics. I definitely saw improvement in my abilities; my strokes are a lot smoother and I have to think less about how to form each letter. If you are interested in learning calligraphy, here are a few resources that I found helpful:
- Melissa Esplin’s I Still Love Calligraphy Course
- Molly Jacques’ The Art of Modern Calligraphy Skillshare Course
- Eleanor Winters’ Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy
- Molly Suber Thorpe’s Modern Calligraphy
- Besotted Blog’s Hand Lettering Posts
- Supplies from Paper & Ink Arts (If you don’t have a true Art Supply store in your area)
I am by no means an expert but plan to continue practicing and perfecting my lettering. The 30 day plan works well for me. I am interested in so many different things it’s hard for me to maintain focus; this method helped me concentrate on one thing. Tune in tomorrow to learn what I’ll be doing in November.
