The Nate Berkus Show
This is a repeat from my other blog. I posted it there because I thought it was a great example of spending less on clothes but I decided to post it here too because it’s a design thing. Nate Berkus had blogger Lilliana Vasquez, of Cheap Chicas, on his show and she proved that you can accomplish many looks with a few key pieces. I absolutely love segments like this. She did a great job of showing how to update your wardrobe with 8 pieces and mixing them with your current basics to make 30 different outfits.
Lilliana suggested that every woman’s closet should contain the following basics:
- black pants
- dark straight jeans
- a white button down shirt
- a sheath dress in a neutral color (camel, gray or black)
- a black skirt (preferably an A-Line)
- a classic fall blazer (tweed or plaid)
- a neutral cardigan.
She also suggested having these basic accessories:
- a simple black belt
- neutral flats
- black pumps
- ankle boots.
To update your wardrobe she suggested purchasing these 8 pieces for Fall (which she found for under $150):
- a polka-dot top
- a mustard cardigan
- red pants
- a scarf
- leopard pumps
- a skinny belt
- a chunky stripe sweater
- a lace blouse.
Using these items, she created these 30 outfits. It’s segments like these that really inspire me to create a working wardrobe out of a few key pieces. I highly recommend checking out Lilliana’s blog. I love it because most of the items she features are affordable. What are the go-to pieces in your wardrobe?
